This is because Level 1 chargers are plugged into a standard outlet that carries 120 volts of power. This makes charging notoriously slow, taking between 11 to 20 hours to fully charge a dead EV battery.

For an electric vehicle to sufficiently charge, it is recommended to upgrade to a Level 2 EV charger, which can power up a car in 3 to 6 hours, saving you a lot of time. The only caveat is that you need a 240-volt outlet to plug in a Level 2 charger.
